Abstract  Abstract

A transmitter operable to communicate with a receiver over a wireless communication channel, wherein the transmitter comprises: a processing subsystem (228); and a transmitter subsystem (222) coupled to the processing subsystem; wherein the processing subsystem (228) is configured to demultiplex an initial data stream into a plurality of intermediate data streams by dividing all modulated symbols from the initial data stream directly into disjoint portions of modulated symbols, wherein each portion disjoint is a different one of the plurality of intermediate data streams and has a different number of modulated symbols, and covers (472, 473) each of the intermediate data streams with a different one of at least two different spreading codes, in the that the spreading codes are spreading codes of different length; and wherein the transmitter subsystem (222) is configured to transmit a final data stream that results from the covered plurality of intermediate data streams on a first wireless communication channel.
