Abstract  Abstract

A method for use in a communication system in which a client device (108) requests media segments from a media ingestion system (103), the procedure comprising: constructing, in the media ingestion system (103) , forward error correction blocks, FEC, in a FEC segment (512) that correspond to media fragments in a media segment (510), wherein the FEC blocks in the FEC segment (512) have the same order that the media chunks in the media segment (510), and wherein the FEC symbols in the FEC blocks are in order of their encoding symbol identifier; and naming, using the media ingestion system (103), a plurality of segments so that the media segments containing media fragments and the FEC segments containing FEC blocks are named according to a differentiable pattern that can be derived. on a client device (108), thus allowing a client device to derive the names of the corresponding FEC segments to make requests for those FEC segments based on the media chunks required by the client device.
