Abstract  Abstract

The block-request streaming system typically uses a collection system that generates data in a form to be served by a conventional file server (HTTP, FTP, or the like) to provide improvements in bandwidth efficiency and user experience of such systems, The collection system collects the content and prepares it as files or data elements to be served by a file server, which may or may not include a cache. The client device may be adapted to take advantage of the gathering process as well as to incorporate improvements that form a better presentation regardless of the gathering process. In a block-request streaming system, the collection system generates data according to erasure codes and the client device can effectively decode the media to provide presentations, through the timing of various selections and requests for media data and redundant data have.
