Abstract  Abstract

Power control in a wireless communication unit (112) operating in a wireless communication system (100) (315) is based on using a path loss correlation metric to derive one or more parameters pertaining to a wireless transmission and adjusting an output power level of said wireless communication unit in response to said one or more parameters. The output power may be open loop adjustment of a weighting parameter and filter. The calculation may use a number of instantaneous path loss measure of and difference values to provide path loss correlation indicator. Basing power control calculations on a path loss correlation metric provides the advantage of improved power control performance particularly for slow moving mobile subscriber equipment without compromising power control performance at high speed.
