Abstract
A method for performing power control in a wireless communication unit ( 112) operating in a wireless communication system (100) includes the steps of: determining (315) a path loss correlation metric to derive one or more parameters pertaining to a wireless transmission; and adjusting an output power level of said wireless communication unit in response to said one or more parameters.
Basing power control calculations on a path loss correlation metric provides the advantage of improved power control performance particularly for slow moving subscriber equipment without compromising power control performance at high speed.
