Abstract  Abstract

A transmitter in a wireless communication system, such as a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) communication system, transmits one data set on the in-phase (I) channel and the other data set on the quadrature (Q) channel. . This transmitter generates a gain signal β and multiplies the digital data related to the Q channel by the gain signal β. Limiting the gain signal β to a finite value that can be accurately represented by a predetermined number of bits, such as 4 bits to the right of the binary point, reduces the complexity of the multiplication operation. By using the same number of quantization bits for β in all constituent devices in the wireless communication system, it is possible to remove a demodulation error due to β quantization.
