Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for providing uplink packet data service via E-DCH in an asynchronous WCDMA system is disclosed. A transmission block size (TBS) for transmitting uplink transmission channel data is determined. A combination of a spreading index (SF) and a modulation format (MF) for transmission of uplink channel data corresponding to the determined TBS is a physical channel data bit size that can be transmitted and a plurality of preset puncturings. Selected according to the limit value. The TBS is transmitted on the control information of the uplink transmission channel data. The combination of SF and MF does not require an additional physical channel when transmitting uplink data with TBS, maximizes transmission efficiency, and maximizes the number of punctured bits. Determined based on size. Such a method maximizes uplink transmission efficiency, saves transmission resources, and reduces uplink signaling overhead necessary to transmit E-DCH control information.
