Abstract  Abstract

The embodiments disclosed herein address the need in the art for an extended acknowledgment / rate control channel. In one aspect, the acknowledgment command and the rate control command are combined to form a combined command. In another aspect, the combined commands are generated according to the placement of points, each point corresponding to a pair of rate control commands and acknowledgment commands. In yet another aspect, the placement points are designed to give the desired error rate for each command pair. In yet another aspect, the common rate control command is transmitted with a combined or dedicated rate control command. Various other aspects are also presented. While these aspects have the benefit of reduced overhead, they provide acknowledgment and rate control to a single remote station or group of remote stations, or both. (Selection) FIG.
