Abstract  Abstract

Output symbols are generated from a composite set of symbols including input symbols and redundant symbols for a given key. The output symbols are usually independent of each other, and if necessary, an infinite number of output symbols can be generated at the resolution of the key used. The output symbols are informational even when many symbols have already been received, so that the received output symbols can provide additional information for decoding. The output symbols are such that a set of received output symbols can provide information based on the likelihood to support error correction. The decoder calculates check symbols from the received output symbols, each check symbol being associated with one or more input symbols and redundant symbols. For each output symbol received, the decoder updates the accumulated amount of information estimated, and the probability for all each input symbol or some possible value of the input symbol in one or more rounds. Generate a distribution. For all of the input symbols, this process can be repeated until one of many possible values is likely to be compared to the other. The process can then be repeated until a predetermined number of cycles or other criteria is met. The update can take into account already decoded symbols, additional output symbols and check symbols.
