Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for uplink synchronization between a first transceiver and a second transceiver in a multi-user cellular communication system in which communication resources are divided into communication channels. The method includes the steps of transmitting a first signature sequence selected from a first signature sequence set from a second transceiver to a first transceiver, and transmitting a received signal at the first transceiver to a second Correlating with at least one signature sequence from the signature sequence set to estimate the arrival time of the signature sequence and synchronizing the transmission between the second transceiver and the first transceiver. In the step of transmitting a first signature sequence from a second transceiver to a first transceiver, the first signature sequence forms at least part of a zero correlation interval sequence. The invention also relates to a system and a transmitter.
