Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide systems and methods that facilitate utilizing power control preambles with closed loop power control techniques in a wireless communication environment.SOLUTION: In a system 500, a base station 202 transfers an uplink grant over a downlink, and an access terminal 302 sends a power control preamble over an uplink in response to the uplink grant. The power control preamble is transmitted at a power level determined by the access terminal utilizing an open loop power control mechanism. The base station analyzes the power control preamble, generates, on the basis of the analysis a power control command to correct the power level employed by the access terminal, and transfers the generated power control command to the access terminal. The access terminal can thereafter utilize the power control command to adjust the power level for uplink data transmission.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
