Abstract  Abstract

Systems and methods are described that facilitate using power control preambles using closed loop power control techniques in a wireless communication environment. The uplink grant may be delivered on the downlink (eg, the first uplink grant after uplink inactivity) and the power control preamble may be sent on the uplink in response to the uplink grant. According to one example, the transmission of the power control preamble may be explicitly scheduled and / or implicitly scheduled. The power control preamble may be transmitted at a power level determined by the access terminal using an open loop power control mechanism. The base station may generate a power control command based on analyzing the power control preamble and correcting the power level used by the access terminal. The access terminal can then use the power control command to adjust the power level for uplink data transmission.
