Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To derive Doppler information from received satellite almanac information to provide a mobile unit for calculating location information regarding a satellite including at least one pseudo range from the Doppler information and to provide a mobile unit and a method for calibrating a frequency of a GPS local oscillator.

SOLUTION: A mobile unit receives satellite almanac information regarding a plurality of satellites within a field of vision of the mobile unit over a cellular communication link from a cell site and derives Doppler information from the satellite almanac information. A local oscillator used for acquiring a GPS signal is calibrated by use of a precision carrier frequency signal such that output of the local oscillator is corrected by a reference signal generated from the precision carrier frequency signal.
