PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color management (CM) system for trying to maintain video quality improved in the fidelity of an image especially the original appearance of video content on a display having various capabilities.

SOLUTION: A distributed video signal 208 and meta data 204 are supplied to a meta data decoder 222 and a video decoder 224 in a target display environment 220. The meta data decoder 222 and the video decoder 224 respectively receive each data stream and a CM parameter generator 232 acquires the meta data from the meta data decoder 222 as well as meta data from a meta data prediction block 230 as input. The color management processing of source image data displayed on a target display 236 is changed in accordance with the meta data 204 in various levels.
