Abstract
A method and apparatus are disclosed for creating a vendor-independent information model and a version-independent information model that a base station of a cellular telephone can use to communicate its capabilities to network elements in a plug and play format. This information model can also be used to carry configuration information from the network element to the base station. The capability and configuration information is automatically communicated and used, thereby reducing the likelihood of human operator errors in configuring and reconfiguring new or changed base station equipment.
