Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for improving throughput while transmitting data packets within multiple time slots in a high data rate communication system. To avoid unnecessary retransmission of the packet, the subscriber station sends a Stop-Repeat signal to the base station, causing the base station to stop further transmission of the packet. To enable successful decoding of the packet, the subscriber station sends a Continue-Repeat signal to the base station, causing the base station to transmit a retransmission of the packet during a time slot exceeding a predetermined default number of time slots.
