Abstract  Abstract

A method of improving the transmission of information signals in a communication system having a base station and a remote station is taught. Establish a first and a second transmission link with the remote station. The information signal is encoded to provide an encoded information signal having more bits than the information signal. Providing a first and a second transmission signal, each transmission signal having bits selected from an encoded information signal. Each of the first and second transmission signals transmits to a remote station on a separate one of the first and second transmission links. The remote station synthesizes the first and second transmission signals transmitted by the remote station to provide a synthesized and encoded signal. The synthesized and encoded signal is decoded by the remote station to provide an information signal. The first and second transmission links may be formed between the remote station and a single base station or between the remote station and two separate base stations.
