Abstract
Communication system 100 includes a forward link 106 from a base station 102 to a plurality of mobile units 104, which are multiple shared channels (SHCH) 109, multiple shared control channels (SHCCH). 108, and a multiple dedicated pointer control channel (DPTRCH) 107, wherein the communication system 100 uses HARQ error control for error detection and error correction. When the mobile unit is listening to the DPTRCH, it demodulates and decodes the data on the SHCH using the SHCCH indicated by the DPTRCH. Throughput problems may occur when a mobile unit combines and decodes SHCH data destined for another mobile unit or incorrectly decodes SHCH data designated for that mobile unit. To improve the data throughput of the system, the system employs flush tests (902, 904, 1004, 1008) and energy detector tests (1100, 1202) so that improperly decoded data blocks corrupt appropriately decoded data blocks.
