Abstract  Abstract

A wireless LAN (WLAN) system for communication between a plurality of users 101-105 in a basic service system or cell includes a switching access point (SAP) 106 for transmitting and receiving point-to-multipoint communication with users. Multiple ports are available in SAP, each of which is assigned a unique carrier frequency to isolate inter-user communications to avoid collisions, has non-persistent frequency allocation capability, and dynamic or pseudo random carrier allocation capability. Another embodiment of SAP uses beamforming to provide multiple users with spatial ports for allocation.
