Abstract
A method and an apparatus for transceiving packets in a mobile communication system are provided to reduce a size of the packets transceived through a radio channel without signaling a size of an upper layer packet if a size of the upper layer packet is calculated from an entire size. A method for transceiving packets in a mobile communication system comprises the following steps of: receiving a first packet from an upper layer; configuring a second packet in the first packet by inserting a size index(SID), having one of a code point mapped to one of predetermined packet sizes or a code point indicating that a size of the first packet can be derived from a size of the second packet, into a header(525); and transmitting the generated second packet to a lower layer(545).
