Abstract  Abstract

A method and an apparatus for determining a preferred image format between wireless video call terminals are provided to use an allocated bit rate maximally while using an existing signal system, thereby compressing an image by the preferred image format. A terminal checks a received SDP offer(510). The terminal determines whether the SDP offer is acceptable(520). When the terminal accepts the maximum image format, the terminal analyzes a preferred image format command transmitted together with the SDP offer to whether a preferred image format is supportable by the maximum image format of compromised profile and level(530). When a requested preferred image format is acceptable, a counterpart terminal checks whether an image compressor and a camera can support the preferred image format(540).
