Abstract  Abstract

Systems and methods relating to non-adaptive beam scanning in a wireless network are disclosed. In some embodiments, non-adaptive beam scanning for the transmit beam patterns 16 of the transmit node 12, which divides the service coverage area 18 of the transmit node 12 into transmit partition cells 20, There is provided a method of operating a transmission node 12 for performing a transmission. The method transmits a known signal using each of a plurality of scanning beam patterns for each of a plurality of beam scanning stages via non-overlapping radio resource slots. The scanning beam patterns for the beam scanning stages are such that each unique combination of scanning beam patterns consisting of one scanning beam pattern from each beam scanning stage is transmitted to a different transmission beam pattern 16 . This multi-stage beam scanning approach provides a generally more efficient process for beam scanning than an existing sequential beam sweeping (SBS) approach.
