Abstract  Abstract

2007 -02- 0 7 A service selection overlay for wireless CDMA communication, where multiple allocable subchannels are defined on a reverse connection by assigning different code phases to each subchannel for a given long pseudo noise code (PN code). The instantaneous bandwidth needs of each network subscriber unit are then satisfied by dynamically allocating none, one or more sub-channels on a need basis for each network type connection. The system effectively provides a relatively high number of virtual physical connections between the subscriber units and the base stations of the reverse connection through extended free periods, such as when computers connected to the subscriber units are turned on but not currently transmitting or receiving data. These maintenance subchannels allow the base station and the subscriber units to remain in phase and time synchronization. This, in turn, allows for the rapid acquisition of additional subchannels as needed, by assigning new code phase subchannels. Preferably, the code phases of the new channels are assigned according to a predetermined code phase ratio with respect to the corresponding maintenance subchannel code phase.
