Abstract  Abstract

1. A method for configuring and controlling a channel in a wireless communication system that partitions an entire frequency band into multiple sub-bands, comprising the steps of! select at least one sub-band from said plurality of sub-bands and allocate each of the Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) channels using the selected at least one sub-band; ! exclude subcarriers of at least one of said AMC channels in accordance with a predetermined pattern and! allocate a finger using the excluded subcarriers. ! 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the AMC channels and the finger are transmitted together in the same timeslot. ! 3. The method of claim 1, wherein if the wireless communication system is an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, the AMC channels and the finger are transmitted together in the same OFDM symbol interval. ! 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of allocating a control channel for transmitting information about each of the subcarriers constituting the AMC channels and the finger. ! 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the number of AMC channels to which the finger is allocated is inversely proportional to the number of terminals receiving the finger. ! 6. The method of claim 5, wherein increasing the number of AMC channels to which a finger is allocated leads to a decrease in the number of subcarriers excluded in each AMC channel. ! 7. A method for transmitting a channel by a base station in a wireless communication system that partitions an entire frequency band into a plurality of sub-bands, comprising the steps of! define the subcarriers,
