A technology of a user equipment (UE) operable to communicate in a device-to-device (D2D) network. A proximity detection request may be transmitted to an Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The proximity detection request may include a window parameter, an identification information related to a second UE, and a proximity detection signal indicating that the proximity detection request is used for proximity detection or use of the second UE. To establish a D2D connection between the first UE and the second UE. A proximity warning message at the window parameter may be received from the EPC.
