Abstract  Abstract

VARIABLE PACKAGE LENGTHS FOR HIGH-RATE PACKAGE DATA COMMUNICATIONS. Method and equipment for variable length Physical Layer (PL) package generation. Multiple Security Layer (SL) packages can be multiplexed into a single SL package to increase efficiency, where SL packages can be of varying lengths. In one embodiment, SL packages of different formats for different users are combined into capsules that form the PL package. Shorter packages are for users with poor channel conditions or who require smaller amounts of data due to applications and Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. In one embodiment, a modified preamble structure provides Unicast or multiuser packages. The alternate embodiment provides modified Rate Sets, a mechanism for identifying a single user packet ACK, or a multiplexed packet (delayed ACK). The ON / OFF switch for the ACK X channel is the bipolar switch used on IS-856, and / or interpretation of multiple DRC values.
