a cell searching apparatus and method in a mobile communication system. in the cell search method in the time slot synchronization of the synchronization channel signal and determining a base station group specific code. Then the predetermined base station packet special code circularly reading station packet dedicated code table. selecting the corresponding code packet base station group specific code read in the special code table estimate having the smallest distance from the base station of the base station as the last packet dedicated code.
