An autonomous access application server (ASAA) that enables paging and call forwarding to a wireless transceiver (WTRU) across different types of wireless access networks, the ASAA server comprising: a network service identification circuit configured to identify network services available to the WTRU; a receiver circuit configured to receive a request for communication with the WTRU; a network identification circuit configured to identify the access networks with which the WTRU can communicate and determine a preferred access network; a paging mechanism configured to issue pages to the WTRU via the identified wireless access networks; and a forwarding device configured to forward communications to and from the WTRU via the preferred access network.
