A mobile terminal adapted for performing a random access procedure over a radio interface (106 202) wherein the mobile terminal (102 200) comprises: - A synchronization request component (208) which is designed to send a synchronization request for synchronization information; - A synchronization response component (210) that is adapted to receive in response to the synchronization request synchronization information; and- At least one transmission parameter is adjusted according to the synchronization information to send a transmission control component (204) is adapted based a resource request for data transmission resource; and- A component which is designed such that it starts a synchronization timer in response to receipt of the synchronization information wherein a further synchronization request is sent before any further data transmission at or after the expiry of the synchronization timer.
