Abstract  Abstract

Authentication method for authenticating a mobile node (MT) for a packet data transmission network, comprising the following steps: the packet data transmission network receives a mobile node identity (IMSI) and a protection code ( MT_RAND) of the mobile node, the identity of the mobile node corresponding to a shared secret specific to the identity of the mobile node and usable by a telecommunications network; the packet data transmission network obtains authentication information (Kc, SRES, RAND) usable by the telecommunications network, the authentication information comprising a challenge (RAND) and a session secret (Kc, SRES) in correspondence with the Identity of the mobile node and obtainable using the challenge and shared secret (Ki); cryptographic information (SIGNrand) is formed using at least the protection code (MT_RAND) and the session secret (Kc, SRES); the challenge (RAND) and the cryptographic information (SIGNrand) are sent from the packet data transmission network to the mobile node (MT); the packet data transmission network receives a first response (SIGNsres) in correspondence with the challenge and based on the shared secret; and the first response (SIGNsres) is verified to authenticate the mobile node.
