Abstract  Abstract

A method for carrying out an initial cell search and establishing a communication link between a UE (user equipment) and a base station in a communication network, such that the method comprises the steps of: carrying out a cell search to detect a public land mobile network PLMN, a primary cryptographic mix code and a displacement or mismatch associated with said base station; comparing said primary cryptographic mixing code with a previously stored primary cryptographic mixing code, and said mismatch with a previously stored mismatch; reject said primary cryptographic mix code and said mismatch if the primary cryptographic mix code is equal to one of said previously stored primary intelligibility mix codes; further carry out said cell search excluding a predetermined window in the environment of any rejected mismatches; and adjust a search frequency in response to a synchronization failure condition.
