An apparatus to be included in a wireless transmission and reception unit (WTRU), the apparatus comprising: processing circuitry to determine (1005) a repetition level corresponding to a number of repetitions associated with wireless communications to or from the WTRU, to determine (1010) a resource associated with the repetition level for a random access procedure based on the determined repetition level, where the resource is determined (1010) based on the system information received from a node of access, where the system information includes an indication of a resource, which includes a logical root sequence index, to be used by the WTRU when the WTRU is associated with a repetition level greater than one and also includes another indication of a resource, which includes another logical root sequence index, to be used by the WTRU when the WTRU is associated with a repetition level of one, to generate (1015) a random access preamble associated with a first group of random access preambles when the WTRU is associated with a repetition level of one and to generate an additional random access preamble associated with a second group of preambles random access when the WTRU is associated with a repetition level greater than one; and communications circuitry, communicatively coupled with the processing circuitry, to transmit (1020) the random access preamble generated to the access node using a physical random access channel associated with the random access procedure based on the determined resource.
