Abstract  Abstract

(57) (Summary) A cellular radio communication system in which a base station receiver can receive data from a mobile terminal in four modes via a reverse link. In the first mode, the mobile terminal sends an independent user pilot on the reverse link, and the user data channel is synchronized with the independent user pilot. In the second mode, the mobile terminal has its user pilot controlled by the received base station pilot and the user data channel is synchronized with the user pilot. In the third mode, the mobile terminal controls its user pilot to the received base station pilot, but the user data channel operates in the orthogonal mode using the ranging information from the base station. Calibrate the phase relationship between the user pilot channel and the user data channel. The user pilot carrier is also a carrier for the user data channel, and can be used as a carrier reference for detecting the user data channel. In the fourth mode, the pilot to be controlled in the third mode is used for acquisition, but after the acquisition, the user pilot code is phase-shifted so as to be synchronized with the user data channel to be an orthogonal channel.
