Abstract  Abstract

A technique for transmitting information without interruption while changing encryption settings is described. The user equipment UE (110) communicates with the wireless communication network for a call. The UE transmits the first information to the wireless network using the first encryption setting (612). To change the encryption setting, the UE selects an activation time of the second encryption setting (614) and sends a security message with the activation time (616). This activation time is the time at which the UE applies the second encryption setting for transmission to the wireless network. The UE then sends second information (eg, a measurement report message) using the first encryption setting after sending the security message and before the activation time (618). The UE transmits the third information using the second encryption setting after the activation time (622).
