Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce communication overhead and to cancel packaging complexity in a hybrid ARQ method for packet data transmission.

SOLUTION: Previously transmitted packets are combined with retransmitted packets said packet being segmented into a plurality of protocol data units PDUs each being assigned a sequence number for identification purposes. The sequence number is then transmitted on a control channel which is separate from the data channel for transmitting the PDUs.
