Abstract  Abstract

The present invention relates to a technique for scheduling downlink data transmission to multiple terminals in a wireless communication system. In one method, one or more terminal sets are formed for data transmission, each terminal set comprising a unique combination of one or more terminals and corresponding to the hypothesis to be evaluated. One or more sub- hypotheses may be further formed for each hypothesis, each sub- hypothesis corresponding to a specific assignment of multiple transmit antennas to one or more terminals of the hypothesis. The performance of each sub- hypothesis is then evaluated, and one of the evaluated sub- hypotheses is selected based on their performance. The terminal of the selected sub- hypothesis is then scheduled for data transmission, and then the data is coded and modulated and transmitted from each of the one or more transmit antennas assigned to the terminal to each scheduled terminal.
