Abstract
A method and apparatus for performing machine to machine (M2M) communication registration is disclosed. The method provides a single registration and periodic registration, and may be based on a device or network. Devices in the system can be grouped. A single device member can perform basic access steps for the group. Other devices can receive the associated access information via the control channel and use the information to access the system. Devices can transmit data, perform updates, and then enter the sleep cycle. The Internet address may be released or maintained. During the control period, the devices can wake up and listen to the control channel for any paging message. Individual devices or entire groups can access the system. During the reporting period, all devices can wake up to access the system and connect to the M2M system to upload data.
