HANDOVER IN INTEGRATED SMALL CELL AND WIFI NETWORKS

Abstract

A system and method for inter-system mobility in an integrated LTE and trusted WLAN access network (TWAN) is disclosed. An X2 interface, configured for both control plane communications and user plane communications, exists between the eNB and the WLAN access point. The WLAN to which the UE communicating with the EPC is attached communicates with the eNB via the X2 interface (H) to hand over communications from the WLAN to the (H) eNB. Similarly, the (H) eNB to which the UE is attached (H) communicates with the WLAN via the X2 interface to handover communications from the eNB to the WLAN.
