Abstract  Abstract

PURPOSE: A device for transmitting/receiving data in a CDMA mobile communication system and a method therefor are provided to map important bits with symbols having high reliability, and to map unimportant bits with symbols having low reliability, thereby improving performance of a system while transmitting data. CONSTITUTION: A controller(916) divides the lowest common denominators of the number of mapping bits and the number of coding bits into the number of the mapping bits in one symbol, determines the number of symbols, and obtains the number of total systematic bits and the number of total parity bits, then decides whether the number of the total parity bits is smaller than the number of the mapping bits to control transmissions of the coding bits. If the number of the total parity bits is smaller than the number of the mapping bits, a modulator(914) maps systematic bits with symbols of the determined symbols, and maps the rest one symbol with the rest systematic bits and parity bits.
