Abstract  Abstract

The present invention provides an improved application of signal strength weights in an SDMA sectorized cellular network. Enhanced signal strength weighting is performed through improved selection of weights from the new codebook subset or by selection of weights from a larger codebook subset. In a further embodiment, the antenna beam index or bitmap may be used to select the best beam (s) in the SDMA sectorized cellular network. In another embodiment, a field or factor in an uplink or downlink transmission packet may indicate which directional transmission beam is best for transmission or when the directional transmission beam should be activated.
