A method comprising:', 'performing a vector-based synthesis with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate decomposed representations of the plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients representative of one or more audio objects and corresponding directional information, wherein the spherical harmonic coefficients are associated with an order and describe a sound field;', 'determining distinct and background directional information from the directional information;', 'reducing an order of the directional information associated with the background audio objects to generate transformed background directional information;', 'applying compensation to increase values of the transformed directional information to preserve an overall energy of the sound field.

The method of claim 1,', 'wherein performing the vector-based synthesis comprises performing a singular value decomposition with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate a U matrix and an S matrix representative of the audio objects and a V matrix representative of the directional information,', 'wherein determining the distinct and background directional information comprises determining distinct column vectors of the V matrix and background column vectors of the V matrix;', 'wherein reducing the order of the directional information comprise reducing an order of the background column vectors of the V matrix to generate transformed background column vectors of the V matrix; and', 'wherein applying compensation comprises applying compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix to preserve an overall energy of the sound field.

3. The method of claim 2,', 'determining a number of salient singular values of the S matrix, wherein a number of the distinct column vectors of the V matrix is the number of salient singular values of the S matrix.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein reducing the order of the background column vectors of the V matrix comprises:', 'determining a reduced order for the spherical harmonics coefficients; and zeroing values for rows of the background column vectors of the V matrix associated with an order that is greater than the reduced order.

5. The method of claim 2, further comprising:', 'combining background columns of the U matrix, background columns of the S matrix, and a transpose of the transformed background columns of the V matrix to generate modified spherical harmonic coefficients.

6. The method of claim 2, wherein the modified spherical harmonic coefficients describe one or more background components of the sound field.

7. The method of claim 2, wherein applying compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix comprises:', 'determining a first energy of a vector of the background column vectors of the V matrix and a second energy of a vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix; and', 'applying an amplification value to each element of the vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, wherein the amplification value comprises a ratio of the first energy to the second energy.

8. The method of claim 2, wherein applying compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix comprises:', 'determining a first root mean-squared energy of a vector of the background column vectors of the V matrix and a second root mean-squared energy of a vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix; and', 'applying an amplification value to each element of the vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, wherein the amplification value comprises a ratio of the first energy to the second energy.

9. A device comprising:', 'one or more processors configured to perform a vector-based synthesis with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate decomposed representations of the plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients representative of one or more audio objects and corresponding directional information, wherein the spherical harmonic coefficients are associated with an order and describe a sound field, determine distinct and background directional information from the directional information, reduce an order of the directional information associated with the background audio objects to generate transformed background directional information, apply compensation to increase values of the transformed directional information to preserve an overall energy of the sound field

The device of claim 9,', 'wherein the one or more processors are configured to perform a singular value decomposition with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate a U matrix and an S matrix representative of the audio objects and a V matrix representative of the directional information, determine distinct column vectors of the V matrix and background column vectors of the V matrix, reduce an order of the background column vectors of the V matrix to generate transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, and apply the compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix to preserve an overall energy of the sound field

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to determine a number of salient singular values of the S matrix, wherein a number of the distinct column vectors of the V matrix is the number of salient singular values of the S matrix

12. The device of claim 10, wherein the one or more processors are configured to determine a reduced order for the spherical harmonics coefficients, and zero values for rows of the background column vectors of the V matrix associated with an order that is greater than the reduced order

13. The device of claim 10, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to combine background columns of the U matrix, background columns of the S matrix, and a transpose of the transformed background columns of the V matrix to generate modified spherical harmonic coefficients

14. The device of claim 10, wherein the modified spherical harmonic coefficients describe one or more background components of the sound field

The device of claim 10, wherein the one or more processors are configured to determine a first energy of a vector of the background column vectors of the V matrix and a second energy of a vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, and apply an amplification value to each element of the vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, wherein the amplification value comprises a ratio of the first energy to the second energy

16. The device of claim 10, wherein the one or more processors are configured to determine a first root mean-squared energy of a vector of the background column vectors of the V matrix and a second root mean-squared energy of a vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, and apply an amplification value to each element of the vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, wherein the amplification value comprises a ratio of the first energy to the second energy

A device comprising :', 'means for performing a vector-based synthesis with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate decomposed representations of the plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients representative of one or more audio objects and corresponding directional information, wherein the spherical harmonic coefficients are associated with an order and describe a sound field;', 'means for determining distinct and background directional information from the directional information;', 'means for reducing an order of the directional information associated with the background audio objects to generate transformed background directional information; and

means for applying compensation to increase values of the transformed directional information to preserve an overall energy of the sound field

The device of claim 17,', 'wherein the means for performing the vector-based synthesis comprises means for performing a singular value decomposition with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate a U matrix and an S matrix representative of the audio objects and a V matrix representative of the directional information,', 'wherein the means for determining the distinct and background directional information comprises means for determining distinct column vectors of the V matrix and background column vectors of the V matrix;', 'wherein the means for reducing the order of the directional information comprises means for reducing an order of the background column vectors of the V matrix to generate transformed background column vectors of the V matrix; and', 'wherein the means for applying compensation comprises means for applying compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix to preserve an overall energy of the sound field.19. 21. The device of claim 18, further comprising:', 'means for combining background columns of the U matrix, background columns of the S matrix, and a transpose of the transformed background columns of the V matrix to generate modified spherical harmonic coefficients.

22. The device of claim 18, wherein the modified spherical harmonic coefficients describe one or more background components of the sound field.

The device of claim 18, wherein the means for applying compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix comprises:', 'means for determining a first energy of a vector of the background column vectors of the V matrix and a second energy of a vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix; and', 'means for applying an amplification value to each element of the vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, wherein the amplification value comprises a ratio of the first energy to the second energy.

The device of claim 18, wherein the means for applying compensation to increase values of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix comprises:', 'means for determining a first root mean-squared energy of a vector of the background column vectors of the V matrix and a second root mean-squared energy of a vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix; and', 'means for applying an amplification value to each element of the vector of the transformed background column vectors of the V matrix, wherein the amplification value comprises a ratio of the first energy to the second energy.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to:', 'perform a vector-based synthesis with respect to a plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients to generate decomposed representations of the plurality of spherical harmonic coefficients representative of one or more audio objects and corresponding directional information, wherein the spherical harmonic coefficients are associated with an order and describe a sound field;', 'determine distinct and background directional information from the directional information;

reduce an order of the directional information associated with the background audio objects to generate transformed background directional information; and', 'apply compensation to increase values of the transformed directional information to preserve an overall energy of the sound field.']
