Abstract  Abstract

A subscriber unit for wireless communication arrangements, in which a set of individually adjusted gain subscriber channels (Pilot ABC) is formed by using a set of codes (Walsh + -, Walsh ++ -) that has a small amount of PN propagation chips per orthogonal waveform period. The data to be transmitted through one of the transmission channels are coded for error correction of the low code speed and the sequence repeated before modulating with one of the subchannel codes, of adjusted gain and summed with the modulated data using the other subchannel codes . The resulting aggregated data (316) is modulated using a long subscriber code and a pseudo-random propagation code (PN code) and converted upwards for transmission. The use of short orthogonal codes provides for the suppression of interference while allowing the coding of the extensive error correction and the repetition for the diversity of time to overcome the fadeRaleigh commonly experienced in terrestrial wireless systems. The sub-channel code set may comprise four Walsh codes, each orthogonizing the remaining codes in the set. The use of four sub-channels is preferred as it allows the shortest orthogonal codes to be used, the use of a larger number of channels and therefore longer codes are accepted. A base station is also proposed for receiving the data modulated by said unit, in a communication arrangement, a method for transmitting data through said unit and a method for generating said data from the unit, in a communication arrangement, a method for transmit data through said unit and a method to generate said data to
