Abstract  Abstract

A method and apparatus for signaling the release of a persistent resource in long-term evolution (LTE) are described. A wireless transmission / reception unit (WTRU) receives an indication of the release of a persistent downlink (DL) resource from an evolved Node B (eNB) through a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). The WTRU transmits a positive acknowledgment (ACK) indicating that the indication was received. The eNB can use the PDCCH or a media access control (MAC) CE to signal the indication. At least one bit can be added to the content of the PDCCH to signal if the PDCCH is for allocation of persistent or dynamic DL resources. Then, the persistent resource of the DL is released and an indication that the persistent resource of the DL has been released is transmitted.
