Abstract  Abstract

ABSTRACT A method for improving the reliability of a channel quality indicator (CQ1) message in a wireless communications network begins with receipt of the CQ1 5 message. The CQ1 message is then decoded and a decision metric value for each symbol in the CQ1 message is computed. A largest decision metric value and a second largest decision metric value for the CQ1 message are determined. The reliability of the CQ1 message can be determined by comparing the two largest decision metric values. This method may be applicable to high-speed 10 downlink packet access in time division duplex frequency division duplex or other modes of transmission
