Abstract  Abstract

A method of improving the reliability of a channel quality indicator (CQI) (102 in FIG. 3) message in a wireless communication network begins with receiving a CQI message. The CQI message is then decoded and a decision indicator value is calculated for each symbol in the CQI message. The largest decision indicator value and the second largest decision indicator value are determined for the CQI message. The reliability of the CQI message is determined by comparing the two largest decision indicator values. The method is applicable to high speed downlink packet access TDD, FDD, or other transmission modes.

Channel quality indicators, decision indicator values, lead-muller code, outer loop power control
