Abstract  Abstract

SEARCH SYSTEM AND METHOD. A radio network controller (200) that acts to reduce the number of search processes from a common ID in a search procedure when performing a search process while simultaneously calling a mobile station (300). A not required field indicating whether the search for a common ID will be required or not required should be added to a message (14 or 15) from a central network. (400 or 500). Radio network controller (200) determines whether or not a common ID search will be required based on field status and message type (14 or 15) from the central network (400 or 500). A common ID lookup (21) will be required if the field indicates OFF , while ON is indicated and if message (15) is looking for 1 and it is determined that no RRC connection has been established for the call. mobile station (300), and thus the common ID search will not be required on the radio network controller (200).
