METHOD AND EQUIPMENT TO MAKE THE SELECTION OF THE PREFERRED SYSTEM. A method and equipment for selecting a communications system according to the geographic region in which the subscriber station is located. Upon successful acquisition or capture, the subscriber station examines the identification information of the received system to determine its geographic region. The following subscriber station determines whether the picked up system is the most desirable system for use in the geographic region. If it is the most desirable system for use in the geographic region, the subscriber station provides services using the system captured. If it is not the most desirable system for use in the geographic region, the subscriber station tries to capture a more desirable system.
