Abstract
An image processing apparatus comprises a receiver (201) for receiving an image signal which comprises at least an encoded image and a target display reference. another one receiver (1701) receives the display (107) of the data signal wherein the data signal includes a data field the data field comprising a display (107) of display dynamic range indication. the display dynamic range indicator comprises at least one illumination specifications for display. dynamic range processor (203) is arranged to indicate dynamic range transform is applied to encoding image and generating an output image by responding to display dynamic range. the output (205) to a display output comprising the output image signal of the output image. In addition the transformation can be performed in response to a target display reference the dynamic range of the target display standard indicating encoded image is encoded for which of the display. The invention can be used for improved high dynamic range (HDR) image is generated from for example a low dynamic range (LDR) image or vice versa.
