Abstract  Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for transforming images different in resolution to a proper dynamic range.

SOLUTION: An image processing device comprises a receiver 201 for receiving an image signal including an encoded image. Another receiver is configured to receive a data signal having a data field including a display dynamic range index from the display. The display dynamic range index includes at least one luminance specification for the display. A dynamic range processor 203 is configured to apply a dynamic range transformation to the encoded image in accordance with the display dynamic range index to thereby generate an output image. An output unit 205 is configured to output an output image signal including the output image to the display. The dynamic range transformation is executed in accordance with a target display reference indicative of a dynamic range of a target display for which the encoded image is encoded.
