Abstract  Abstract

A method for controlling the transmission power in a terminal of a cellular radio system the radio link includes a base station alternatively a first state (10) and second state (11) wherein the terminal in the first state regularly receives signals transmitted from the base station (30) and additionally transmits in the second state data as packets to the base station (34) characterized in that that in the first state the control of a default value of the transmission power in the terminal based on measurements (31 32) of the signals periodically transmitted from the base station is based and in the second state the control of the transmission power in the terminal on the measurement of regularly transmitted by the base station signals and to a message sent from the base station feedback on the quality of the data transmission link (35 36 37 39) is based.
